The holiday date changes every year. Chinese New Year 2026 falls on February 17. The official public holiday runs from approximately February 15 through February 23, with full production typically resuming around mid-March. For reference, in 2025 it fell on January 29.
The practical consequence: any order placed after around early December risks getting caught in the pre-CNY rush, the shutdown, or the slow restart. A supplier who quotes a 35-day lead time in January is likely not accounting for the two to three weeks their line is dark.
Other public holidays
Chinese New Year is the longest shutdown but not the only one. Other holidays in 2026 that affect production include Tomb Sweeping on April 3 to 5, Labour Day on May 1 to 3, and Dragon Boat Festival on June 19 to 21. None are as disruptive as CNY, but each can add several days to a production timeline and push a ship-ready date past a target sailing.
